Band News:

January 6th nine students from The Colony High School Band competed at the Area Band Auditions in Abilene.  These students competed against students from west Fort Worth, Denton, Wichita Falls, and the Amarillo and Lubbock areas to earn a spot in the Texas All-State Band.

Two students from TCHS were chosen as Texas All-State Members:

David (Sophomore) - Tuba
Derek (Senior)- Bass Trombone

David and Derek will perform with the All-State Bands and Orchestras next month in San Antonio during the Texas Music Educators convention.   We also had two students who were first alternates (they missed All-State by one chair): Carson (Senior) - Euphonium, Rachel (Freshman) - Bassoon

Congratulations to these students on earning such a high honor.

The Colony High School Band competed at the Bands of America Super Regional marching contest this past weekend in San Antonio.  41 bands from Texas and Colorado competed in this two day marching event held at the Alamodome.  The Colony High Band gave it's best performance of the year.  Parents from other bands who saw the performance were very complimentary of our performance.  The Colony Band was 22nd place in the preliminary competition and scored 81 points out of 100 (the highest score by The Colony Band at a Bands of America contest in 5 years).  All of the bands placed ahead of TCHS were 5A bands and 15 of those bands competed at the UIL State Marching Contest on Tuesday.  The Colony was the highest placed 4A band at the contest.  Congratulations to all the members of The Colony High Band for their outstanding work this season.

The Colony High School Band competed at several marching competitions in October.  The Band earned 12th place (out of 29 bands) at the Bands of America Arlington Regional Contest and won 2nd place in 4A and Sixth place overall at the Plano East Marching Contest.  The Band also received First Division (Superior) ratings from all the judges at the UIL Region Marching Contest.

The Colony High Band, in conjuction with the Griffin and Lakeview Middle School Bands, will host two evenings of Band concerts in December.  There will be concerts on the evenings of Tuesday, December 5th and Thursday, December 7th.  Both concerts will be at The Colony High School Auditorium and free to the public.

The Colony High School Band performed at the Bands of America Regional Contest at the University of Texas - Arlington this past Saturday.  26 bands from around the state (and 2 from Oklahoma) competed at the contest.  The Band won 12th place overall at the contest and was 1.4 points out of 100 from making the Finals (the top 10 bands make Finals).  The level of competition was extremely high:  only 5 points out of 100 was the difference between 7th place and 14th place.

The Colony Band was the highest ranked 4A High School Band at the contest.  The Band's performance for a packed stadium received a standing ovation.  Many local area band directors were very impressed with how well the band performed.  Please congratulate the members of the Band. The Colony Band will compete at the Plano East Marching Invitational on Saturday, October 14th.
