Selective Service System

The Selective Service System's High School Registrar Program provides an avenue for young men to be made aware of the Federal law requiring them to register with the Selective Service within 30 days of their 18th. By registering, not only are they in compliance with the law but remain eligible for benefits associated with the registration, such as students loan and grants, job training, Federal and some state jobs, and if they are immigrants or have a US citizenship. The registration process has been made easier via the Internet at www.sss.gov or by completing a registration form.

PROGRESS REPORTS

Progress reports are issued every three weeks. Be sure to check your student’s report, as there is still time for improvement when the reports are issued. E-mail is a convenient way to contact teachers and counselors; their addresses, and other useful information, can be found on our website (http://tchs.lisd.net)

ESEMBLER (on-line grading)

TCHS is once again participating in the on-line “grade access.” This system allows parents to monitor their student’s grades on a weekly basis versus waiting for the three-week progress reports to be issued. The on-line grading system is a fantastic tool, and we encourage parents to use it regularly AND stay in contact with teachers with any concerns or comments. Instructions can be found on our LISD website under the Parents/Students link. Research has shown that when parents are regularly involved with their child’s education, grades improve. Let’s continue to work together, and ensure that everyone of our seniors graduate in May 2006.

TRANSCRIPTS

During the month of September, seniors will be given an academic report (transcript). They need to check their transcript for accuracy and verify that they have the required courses necessary to graduate. After reviewing their transcript, please contact the appropriate counselor with any questions or concerns.

COUNSELOR’S COMMENT

In addition to striving for excellence in academics, Mr. Hill and the counselors would like to encourage every senior to pursue extracurricular activities. There are many clubs and organizations to which your student can contribute and from which he or she can grow personally. Student involvement is also important on college applications. Please encourage your student to leave his or her mark on The Colony High School by getting involved this year.

We look forward to a successful and memorable year for us all!
